"Veterans Administration Medical Center exercises option for Third Year of OPS Lean Engagement"

Friday, June 01, 2012

"In May, 2010 OPS was selected by a Veterans Administration Medical Center in a competitive procurement to assit with implementation of the "Toyota Production System of Lean."  The Chairman of the OPS Board of Advisors, Russ Scaffede, a former Toyota Vice President, has led this project since it began in May, 2010. He and Senior Process Improvement Specialist Chuck Ward have worked with the Medical Center team to develop and implement a number of improved processes at that institution, based on the conduct of several Value Stream Analysis Process (VSAP) projects and the resultant Implementation Plan. Customized courses in Introduction to Lean and Problem Solving I and II have been developed and are being taught by Medical Center personnel. The Annual Planning Process has been piloted and will be implemented in an increasingly robust manner in future years.  Policies for employee engagement have been developed and deployed.  Finally, an administrative structure for executive oversight and support of the Lean initiative has been developed and implemented.

The Medical Center has recently awarded OPS a contract to continue its support of this Lean initiative for a third year."
